Krishna Prologue, In order to do this topic justice we have decided to concentrate on the claim by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad that he was the second coming of Krishna, the Hindu deity.

Hinduism is one of the oldest, most ancient and complex religions found on the planet today. Krishna is a central figure for the religion of Hinduism. He is said to have been born July 3228 BCE and is the most recognised figure of Indian mythology. He is said to be the eighth avatar (literally means descent) or incarnation of Vishnu (the supreme God in Hinduism), or rather a direct manifestation of Vishnu himself.

Mirza Ghulam Ahmad claims “Krishna... appeared as a Prophet in India... I am the Krishna whose advent the Aryas are awaiting in this age. I do not make this claim on my own, but God Almighty has repeatedly disclosed to me that I am the Krishna - King of the Aryas - who was to appear in the latter days...” (TEOI, V4, P83)

KRISHNA - THE RETURN

In Hinduism, it is believed that ten focal avatars will descend, thus far nine have descended with Krishna being the eighth and Buddha (also declared a prophet in Ahmadiyya), the ninth. The Hindus are actually not awaiting the return of Krishna, who himself was an advent of Vishnu; they are awaiting the advent of the tenth avatar known as Kalki, the final ‘Maha Avatara’ (great incarnation) of Vishnu.

Stemming from his claim of Krishna, he gave himself the title, “protector of cows” (Tadhkirah, P486) due to the fact that slaughtering of cows is prohibited in Hinduism.  This is in contrary to the Holy Qur’an as Allah (SWT) says, “He hath forbidden for you only carrion and blood and swine flesh and that which hath been immolated in the name of any other than Allah;” (16:115).

In fact by upholding the belief of the second coming of Krishna, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad supports and provides legitimacy to the Hindu rejection of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW). If Mirza Ghulam Ahmad is the second manifestation of Krishna as he claims and that is in fact whom the Hindu’s are awaiting then it is an unconditional prerequisite that the Hindus must reject the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and wait for the second coming of Krishna, otherwise they will not be Hindu. This is an appalling endorsement.

THE BHAGAVAD GITA

In one of the visions of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, he is told “...your praise is set out in the Gita” (Tadhkirah, P486). The Bhagavad Gita is part of one of the major scriptures of Hinduism, the Mahabharata. The scripture, Bhagavad Gita was taught by Krishna who is revered by Hindus as the Svayam Bhagavan.

In verse 6.47, Krishna says “...and of all yogins, he who full of faith worships me.” In other verses he states “...bow down to me” and in addition to this, “... I shall liberate you from all sins. Do not fear.” These concepts all go against core Islamic principles.

KRISHNA - THE REBUTTAL

In an attempt to justify the acceptance of Krishna as a prophet of Allah (SWT) (and Allah (SWT) knows best), the Ahmadiyya will quote the Holy Qur’an and say “And every nation had a messenger;” (10:47) This of course no Muslim denies, however this does not give us the right to guess which messenger was sent where and who it could have been from among the 124,000 prophets (Ahmad #21257) appointed by Allah (SWT). The Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said at the last sermon “I have left among you two matters by holding fast to which you shall never be misguided: the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet” (Mustadrak #1:93 and al-Sunan al-Kubra #10:114 20108).

On such grounds we cannot accept unendorsed prophets and indulge in conjecture. We do not disrespect such personalities but we do not raise them to prophethood, regardless of any good work they may have done or taught. Taking the Ahmadiyya approach would therefore would leave surah 10 ayah 47 (above) open to extensive speculation thus we obey Allah (SWT) and His messenger (SAW) and hold fast to the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah.

‘Krishna In Verse: The Life of Lord Krishna’ written by Dr. Shankaracharya Giri states in verse 33, “Krishna was now waiting for the invasion of Jarasandh. In the meantime he wanted to send all the war booty left out by Kalyawan's army to Dwarika.” The whole purpose of mentioning this is with regard to the hadith where the final prophet and messenger of Allah (SWT) said “I have been given five things which were not given to anyone else before me... 3. The booty has been made halal (lawful) for me yet it was not lawful for anyone else before me...” (Sahih Bukhari, V1, B7, #331) this includes Krishna who deemed it legal for himself.

Daily Hadiths

Narrated / Authority Of: Haritha bin Wahab I heard the Prophet saying, "O people! Give in charity as a time will come upon you when a person will wander about with his object of charity and will not find anybody to accept it, and one (who will be requested to take it) will say, "If you had brought it yesterday, would have taken it, but to-day I am not in need of it."
