Mirza Ghulam Ahmad was a gradual claimant. He began by claiming to be a scholar, then a mujaddid (reformer), then to resembling Jesus (AS), then to claiming to be the Mahdi, then to superiority over Jesus (AS), then to claiming to resemble Muhammad (SAW), ultimately claiming superiority
to Muhammad (SAW) and eventual outright prophethood resulting in his boast of being the last prophet and even assertions from the son of God to visions of seeing himself as God. He was a very confused man who contradicted himself in every claim.
Ahmadis would have you believe that he was simply claiming sub-ordinate prophethood i.e. he came as a follower of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and many more prophets of this nature can come after him. The
However, the Review of Religions, an Ahmadiyya magazine claims Mirza Ghulam Ahmad is the “the last messenger of God” (P197, May 1915). He himself claims that “Allah wanted to end the matter and to complete the building [of Islam] through the last brick... I am that last brick” (RK, V.16, P.178) and “I have been given the name of Isa the Messiah because the khilafat of the best messenger [Muhammad] has been ended by me” (RK, V.16, P.324) and finally admitting that “...the real khatamiyyat (finality) was intended for the sixth millennium” (RK, V.16, P.310) which is synonymous for the era of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad.
He claims “...Of all the paths that lead to God I am the last, and of all His lights I am the last” (TEOI, V4, P50). The Holy Qur’an says “...there has come to you light and a clear Book from Allah” (5:15). The light is Muhammad (SAW) and the book is the Holy Qur’an. The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said “I have left among you two matters by holding fast to which, you shall never be misguided: the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet.” (Mustadrak) The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is the last light to God, not the charlatan Mirza Ghulam Ahmad.
